This session will focus on the importance of reading aloud and interacting with age appropriate books for young children. The latest research on the importance of reading aloud to children and how young children learn to read will be shared.  Another objective will be to share valuable research on brain-based reading instruction with emphasis on preschool activities that support phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, reading fluency, and comprehension.  An overview of the Arkansas Imagination Library and its impact on communities will be shared.  Specific books from the ARIL will be highlighted with activities for engaging children and families as they work together to improve literacy and learning.
